Hightlights and Lessons

It is very important for anyone who wants to spread the message of Islam to study the life of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and discover how he undertook the mission of da‘wah, or calling to Islam. This book is a blueprint for da‘wah. From studying his biography we learn the lessons of patience and perseverance in the face of adversity and opposition, and the readiness to sacrifice everything for the cause of Islam. In this book, Dr. as-Sibâ‘ie shows us how the Prophet’s approach was gentle yet determined and clear-cut, with no compromise on basic issues. The author takes the most important events of the Messenger’s life, summarizes them in order to offer a brief overview, then outlines the lessons that we learn from these events. This is an excellent introduction both to the principles of da‘wah and to the seerah, the study of the life of the Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him). It should be on the bookshelf of every Muslim who wants to call others to Allah. The Life of Prophet Muhammad: Highlights and Lessons has been translated into English by Nasiruddin al-Khattab. Drawn from the earliest and most reliable Arabic sources, it offers, in this close English translation, the Fullest available account of the historical circumstances and personalities most important in the foundation of Islam.

IBN KATHIR’s work offers a fine example of the Islamic scholarship; the quotations and anecdotes that constitute its core are evaluated in terms of trustworthiness of the sources. Variant wordings that are related through differing lines of transmission are noted, and Ibn Kathir gives both his own assessments and those of the earliest Islamic authorities concerning the likely authenticity of these records. The comments and conversations, derived from ancient texts, that are quoted in this work constitute the basis of our knowledge of Islam during the life time Muhammad (Sallallahu Alehe Wasallam)

True to his well-known insightful approach in delving into the texts, Ibn ul-Qayyim starts by explaining the qualities of righteousness and piety that are required from everyone, both in practice and in dawah. He then proceeds to describe the true meaning of migration to Allaah(swt) and His Messenger, discussing in the process full submission to the Messenger's Sunnah as an integral requirement of eemaan. He then goes on to deliberate on the situations of true misery and true happiness.

Toward the end, he stipulates the requirements of the Journey of Migration, presenting along the way some very important insights for sound comprehension of the Quraan.

In addition to its valuable methodological coverage, this book is very touching in its address to the soul and heart. This is characteristic that you rarely find in writings of other authors. May Allah(swt) reward Ibn ul-Qayyim profusely [less]

Part 4 from the Islamic Creed Series.

From time immemorial, the Devil has been launching his attacks against people. But from that time, Allah has been sending His Message to humankind, reminding them of the purpose for which they were created, namely, to worship Him alone. This message of tawheed (the Islamic concept of monotheism), accompanied by laws which regulate human life on the individual and social level, is the Message brought by all the prophets and Messengers, down throughout the ages, to all nations. The Messages of the earlier prophets and Messengers were entrusted to their priests and rabbis, to be preserved and conveyed to subsequent generations by them, but they failed to fulfil that trust, concealing, distorting or omitting parts of the Message until the word of truth was lost. Finally, Allah sent His last Messenger with the ultimate Message addressed to all of humanity, the Message of Islam, and Allah Himself guaranteed to preserve it until the Day of Resurrection. In this book, Dr. ‘Umar al-Ashqar presents a thorough study of the Messengers and their Message. Based primarily on the texts of the Qur’an and Hadith, he also presents quotations from the Bible and other scriptures to demonstrate that the Message is one and that the final Message, that which was brought by our Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), is the culmination of the call of all the Messengers, and the only perfect message in existence, the path to Paradise, that will abide until the Day of Resurrection. This Islamic Creed Series of books has been translated into English by Nasiruddin al-Khattab. [less]

Stories of the Prophets

Ibn Katheer

2011    576 pages    (International Islamic Publishing House)

Believing in all the Messengers and prophets of Allah is one of the pillars of faith in Islam. Denying any of them is a form of disbelief which if not repented leads to the hell-fire. Similarly, exaggerating about any of them beyond the honourable status that Allah, the Almighty, has given them, as the followers of many faiths do, is also wrong. {The Messenger [Muhammad] believes in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, as do the believers.
Each one [of them] believes in Allah, His Angels, His books, and His Messengers. We make no distinction between any of His Messengers. And they say: We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.} (Qur'an 12: 3)
{So relate the stories that perhaps they will give thought.} (Qur'an 7: 176)
The renowned commentator on the Qur'an, expert in Hadith, and historian, Ismâ'eel ibn Katheer has compiled the Stories of the Prophets from the Qur'an and the narrations of the Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) that have been authentically reported. The book is unique in its content, dealing with the important events of the prophets and Messengers with all authenticity right from Adam, the first prophet, to Jesus, peace be upon them all. As for Prophet Muhammad, the author has written a separate book about his biography.
Ibn Katheer's Stories of the Prophets has been translated here by Husain Maqbool. This is the revised second edition. [less]
